Animal ID - These starters challenge students to identify a variety of animals. Many of them focus on common species in Illinois, but you can edit them to apply to your state.

Classification Challenges - From kingdoms to types of mammals, these challenges review classification actvities that we have done in class.

Mystery Critters - Each of these "Who am I?" starters has three animals for the kids to identify using a series of clues. Most of them focus on Illinois animals, but you can edit them to apply to your state.

Scrambles - For these challenges, the names of various animals have been scrambled. Students will need to unscrable the letters and use the clues provided to identify the animals.

Birds - I use these starters during our annual Bald Eagle unit that go along with our community's Bald Eagle Days event.
