The math garden was created as an addition to our Nature Center area, which was developed in 1999. Science Club members worked several hours on Saturdays to clear the grass from the targeted area and prepare it for planting. Special thanks to Matt Pratt for manning the tiller to help us get it done!
Students used their math skills to create a border for the entire garden area as well as the planting bed frames. They also worked together to create the axis for the coordinate plane.
Several of the students used their "green" thumbs to plant new flowers, shrubs, and seeds in the new garden area.
Students also created shape mobiles using plastic shapes and fishing line.
Our new math garden area is shown at left with the planting bed areas, coordinate plane, and weather station. The open areas on either end of the garden will be home to our watermelon and pumpkin patches as well as a sunflower garden.
Our garden is almost ready for another season of growing and learning!
